A Hillsboro man was arrested on Saturday after police say he drove nearly 20 miles with his two teenage children in the trunk of his car.

Sergeant Vance Stimler with the Washignton County Sheriff's Office told KGW an alert witness notified police after seeing two children get into the trunk of a green Pontiac Grand Am at a gas station. Deputies in the area got the call and set out to find the car. Around noon, a deputy finally caught up with the car on Highway 26. It was about 20 miles outside of Hillsboro.
Sergeant Stimler said 40-year-old Douglas Willy was behind the wheel. He told police that he and his fiancé decide to take Willy's four kids to Seaside for the day but did not have enough room in the front of the car for six people. Willy apparently told deputies he made the decision that his 12-year-old and 13-year-old sons ought to ride in the trunk. Stimler said the two other children, 12-year-old and 11-year-old boys, were riding in the back seat with their seatbelts on.
Willy was arrested on two counts of Reckless Endangering. Each count carries a maximum sentence of a year in jail.
Mr. Willy got a trip to the Washington County Jail. Stimler said the freed up seat belt allowed all four children to be properly secured in the car. Willy's fiancé drove the children home.
